I am looking to go on a ';Wild Hog'; trip next week along route 66 and the southern New Mexico desert in concert with the wildflower peak next week. I would prefer to rent a SUV or extended cab pick-up to haul a trailer 10 x 18 with two 600 pound bikes. We will drive as far as Saint Louis or Tulsa and then pull the bikes for the rest of the trip. That way we are more confident we are on the better side of weather since here in Michigan salt, snow and black ice abound.
I do have a van and my buddy has an extended cab truck that will do the job nicely but I would prefer just to use a newer vehicle for the week and save putting the miles on the family car. Which rental car company would you suggest and which vehicle would you choose to do this trip????WILD HOGS:Which vehicles have trailer hitch receptacles standard from the major car rental agencies?
Some of the Ford Expeditions have them... actaullly if I remember all of them have them but depends upon the trailering package if it has the 7pin or 4 pin...
But most of your rental car agencies rent pickups with Fords and Chevrolet/GMC being the main ones in that market... I've rented trucks before from Enterprise.. the cost is kind of on the high side but it will be ready to tow...
