Which car rental option is better?

Here's my situation: I live in southern California and in June my family will be flying into the SF Bay Area. I will be meeting them up there, we'll spend 2 or 3 days up there, then drive back down to southern CA and spend a week down here. I want to rent a car while they're out here, but not sure which of two options is cheaper/better/wiser: a) I rent the car down here, drive it up to the Bay Area, I meet them up there, we do our thing up there, and then drive it back down here (and return it down here), or b) I fly up there, rent the car up there, we do our thing up there, and then we drive it down here and I return it down here. I haven't tried getting any rental rate quotes yet, and figured you all might be able to give me some advice here. Thanks!Which car rental option is better?
Cheapest option will be for you to rent and return the car in the same location. So it would be best if you dont mind the drive, to get the car in LA and drive up to SF and then back down again. Just make sure you get the rental plan with unlimited mileage.Which car rental option is better?
Well, if you have a car in So Cal you can use... then fly up and back. Southwest just announced 49.00 air within California. That would save you big time on travel time... 101 is long and 5 (with the exception of Harris Ranch) is borrrring!

If you don't have a car down there... then still fly up and drive home. I would still take 5... mmmm Tri Tip Sandwiches at Harris Ranch!!! mmmmmmmm
