Car rental insurance necessary?

I don't own a car (so I don't have my own car insurance). I am going to a small town in Upstate New York for a couple of days. Do I need to buy the car rental insurance? It is obscenely expensive (usually close to the price of the car itself).Car rental insurance necessary?
Car Rental companies are required to carry basic public liability and property damage on their cars, up to the minimum limits required by state law. This will cover you for basic public liability and property damage (for other people, other property and other vehicles)... it will not cover any loss or damage of the rental vehicle itself. That is covered by the loss damage waiver that is offered by the car rental company. It is not insurance and it is not mandatory... when you purchase it, you are able to waive your financial responsibility for any loss or damage to the rental car, provided you have complied with all the terms and conditions on your rental agreement. If you do not purchase this coverage or have coverage through a personal automobile policy or credit card coverage, you would be fully financially responsible for any damage or loss (theft) of the rental car... if something happened.

Many credit cards offer Collison or Damage coverage for rental cars. Check with your credit card benefits.Car rental insurance necessary?
If you rent with a major credit card you don't need to purchase the extra insurance on a rental. Just call up the card company to make sure they carry it.

autoinsurance.noneto.com - try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
